TOTAL HEALTH BREAKTHROUGHS
By Jon Herring - Editorial Director Tuesday, December 29th

There is one thing you MUST do to burn fat effortlessly and improve your health in every measurable way. Limit the sugar, grains and high-glycemic carbohydrates in your diet.

A high-glycemic diet stimulates the production of insulin – the "fat storage hormone." Chronically high insulin levels make fat burning virtually impossible. It is also a cornerstone of degenerative disease.

And here is another reason to cut the carbs. A high-glycemic diet can alter the bacteria in your intestines. This can make it easier to gain weight and harder to lose it. And the transition can happen in just 24 hours.

Jeffrey Gordon, MD of Washington University is one of the foremost experts on intestinal bacteria. In a recent study, he clearly showed the relationship between sugar intake, the balance of intestinal flora and weight loss.

Ninety percent of the microbes in your gut fall into two major classes, or phyla:

  • Firmicutes – this strain of bacteria is dominant in those who are obese
  • Bacteroidetes – this strain of bacteria are dominant in those who are lean

Dr. Gordon and his colleagues began with a group of mice raised in a sterile environment. These mice had no intestinal bacteria. In half of the mice, he implanted bacteria dominated by firmicutes, from obese mice. In the second group, he implanted bacteria dominated by bacteroidetes. These came from lean mice.

Both groups of mice ate the same diet. However, those with the bacteria from obese mice became obese. And those with the bacteria from lean mice stayed lean. The same results were achieved when human intestinal bacteria from lean and obese subjects were used.

Dr. Gordon then showed what happened when the mice with a dominant number of "lean bacteria" were switched to a high-sugar diet. The "obese bacteria" rapidly asserted dominance. They began to out-compete and out-proliferate the friendly bacteria. And this took place within just 24 hours!

There is a common saying that "health begins in the gut." This is absolutely true. Friendly intestinal flora are vital to your immune system. They help assimilate nutrients from your diet. They help to eliminate toxins and waste. And they can play a big role in maintaining your optimal weight.

The healthy bacteria in your gut thrive on fiber. The bad bacteria thrive on sugar. So feed your healthy warriors lots of organic vegetables and colorful plant foods. And starve the bad guys by avoiding sugar, grains and high-glycemic carbohydrates.

The Anti-Cancer Properties of Green Tea...

Green tea is one of the oldest beverages in the world. And one of the healthiest. Asian cultures have promoted the benefits of green tea for thousands of years. Lately, modern science has been catching up.

Researchers first gave credence to the anti-cancer properties of green tea, when we realized that the Chinese (at least those that do not live downstream of industrial pollution) have much lower rates of cancer than Western populations. Further research showed that green tea is a potent source of polyphenols, especially one called epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG). This compound has been shown to have powerful antioxidant and anti-cancer properties.

In a recent study, published in the Journal of Clinical Oncology, researchers gave a standardized form of EGCG to patients with chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL). This type of blood cancer is very slow growing, but also very hard to cure.

Ralph Moss, PhD reviewed the study in his newsletter, Cancer Decisions. According to Dr. Moss, 33 patients were treated with varying dosages of EGCG. The doses ranged from 400 mg up to 2,000 mg, twice a day.

After just one month of treatment, one patient experienced a partial remission. A third of the patients experienced more than a 20 percent decrease in the number of lymphocytes in their blood. And 11 out of 12 patients that previously had visibly swollen lymph nodes experienced a reduction of at least 50 percent in the size of these nodes.

The standardized form of EGCG that was used in the study is not available on the market. However, there are several reputable companies that produce EGCG as a supplement.

Men: Protect Your Prostate with Green Tea

Two recent studies also show that green tea provides particularly powerful prostate protection (say that three times fast).

Italian researchers studied 62 men with a pre-cancerous prostate condition. Normally this condition would result in cancer in about 30 percent of cases.  Half of the men were given a placebo. The other half consumed an extract of green tea daily. In the placebo group, 9 out of 30 men developed cancer. In the green tea group, however, only one out of 32 developed the disease.

This is consistent with a study of Chinese men which found that those who consumed the most green tea were two-thirds less likely to develop prostate cancer.

If you or someone you know is fighting cancer, taking a green tea extract or an EGCG supplement would be a great idea. And even if you're not, do as the Asians do. Enjoy a warm cup of organic green tea as often as possible.

This Part of the Aging Process Is OPTIONAL

Creaky joints. Exhaustion. Bedroom "meltdowns." As unpleasant as these things are, there's just nothing we can do about it. It's a normal part of getting older. Right?

WRONG. Thanks to a recent scientific breakthrough, you no longer have to accept aging as inevitable. Find out how to get your hands on this discovery before anyone else right here.
